Armed police personnel from the Suame Divisional and the Regional Police Command have rescued the Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Osei Kyei Mensah-Bonsu after he was attacked by angry artisans in Suame magazine Monday.

The Suame MP was on a fact-finding mission to Suame Magazine ECOWAS road following last Thursday’s protest by the artisans when the incident happened.

The experienced Legislator who is serving his seventh term in parliament upon reaching Suame crossing, the artisans who were already angry at the MP claiming he is not serving their interest in parliament started throwing stones, bottles, and sachet water at him.

The MP and the MCE for Suame including his bodyguard upon sensing danger were forced to enter a conference room at Tarkwah for safety.

Later on, the Ashanti Regional Police Commander led armed police personnel to offer protection to the MP.

While the Suame long-serving MP was in a meeting with the GUTA executives, the angry artisans chanted war songs while others were busy parking sachet water to be hurled at the MP.

After the meeting, the artisans again attacked the MP but the tactical police personnel stationed by the Regional Police Commander quickly move the MP into his vehicle and moved him to safety.

Residents of Tarkwa-Maakro commended the artisans for fighting for their rights.

However, responding to the attack, the Majority Leader in Parliament told GHOne News, that he is not disturbed by the aggression demonstrated towards him by his constituents.

He said he can’t be blamed for the poor state of the ECOWAS road explaining that the road is under the control of the Highways and it is unfortunate for his constituents to direct their anger at him.

Hon. Osei Kyei Mensah-Bonsu assured the incensed artisans and Suame constituents that efforts are underway to address their concerns.
