The Bono-East Regional Minister, Hon Kwasi Adu-Gyan says the region is under security threat after the police withdrew their service few months ago.

According to him, the regional capital Nkoranza has never been safe due to the close down of police posts following protest by some youths of the town in relation to the death of one Albert Donkor.

Speaking on Ghana Kasa morning show on Kasapa fm and Agoo TV, Thursday, Hon Adu-Gyan indicated that other areas in the region under security threats includes Donkro-Nkwanta, Nkwabeng, etc which have no police presence to effect security

“The police stations in all those areas have been closed down. About four (4) towns including main Nkoranza and it’s giving rise to a lot of criminal activities. There is no police in there. They have only erected barriers at entry points but normal policing is not working there.”

He added that the issue is giving rise to a lot of criminal activities which he, as the head of the Regional Security Council (RESEC) has alerted authorities to address the issue.

“It’s a major issue and I have brought it to the attention of authorities and I believe the issue will be resolved soon”

The Inspector-General of Police George Akuffo Dampare sent a delegation to Nkoranza after a mob attacked the Nkoranza police headquarters during a protest of the death of a robbery suspect, Albert Donkor.

The police opened fire on the mob which resulted in the killing of at least one person and injuring at least 6 persons.
