A member of the Communications Team of the New Patriotic Party(NPP), Solomon Owusu has rubbished claims by Pollster, Ben Ephson that Assin North Member of Parliament, Kennedy Agyapong, will beat Trade Minister, Alan Kyerematen, in the impending flagbearership contest of the party.

Mr Ephson’s comment come on the back of President Akufo-Addo assuring the rank and file of the party that he will not support any candidate in the NPP’s flagbearership race expected to be held in 2023.

Political analysts have tipped either the Vice President, Mahamudu Bawumia, or the Trade Minister, Alan Kyerematen to win the race for the 2024 presidential slot.

But Ben Ephson in an interview on the Morning Starr Tuesday indicated that the race will be between Mr Agyapong and Dr. Bawumia.

“I am not a delegate but from the work we have done, I think Alan could place third. If Alan places third I will not be surprised at all. I am talking about figures that I have collected before the election and it is about 55% turnover at the polling station constituency level and the polling station is the biggest. In terms of over 200,000 delegates who will vote.”

Mr. Ephson stated that the just ended ‘Aduro wo so walk’ held in the Ashanti Region for Alan, though with a huge number, had very few delegates who will decide who leads the NPP into the 2024 elections.

But commenting on Ben Ephson’s claims on Kasapa FM’s Ghana Kasa show on Wednesday, Mr Solomon Owusu who’s Alan Kyerematen loyalist stated that the pollster has lost credibility and his predictions must not be taken seriously.

Ben Ephson cannot sit behind his desktop computer and then just add up some figures to do a story without visiting the grounds to know what delegates are thinking about Alan. I don’t blame Ben Ephson, he’s been pampered over the years and he’s now been churning out incorrect election predictions and discrediting himself. His incorrect predictions in the recent NPP internal elections are still fresh in our minds.

“There’s nothing that will change the narrative that Alan Kyerematen will emerge as the NPP Flagberaer for 2024 election. He’s from the base of the party and competent to occupy the highest office of the land. But for the likes of Alan Kyerematen, the NPP would have been in dire straits by now. As we speak the Trade and Industry Minister undisputably is the one giving Ghanaians the hope that things will be well. He’s led the establishment of 125 factories under the One-District-One-Factory project. He’s the one who authored the party’s Trade Policy and Ben Ephson claims such a person has not worked in the party,” he asked.

Mr Solomon Owusu added: “The recently held walk in Kumasi which saw thousands of people attending has sent jitters to some people in the NPP and are resorting to all manner of moves to discredit Alan Kyerematen. Ben Ehpson has not done any research, what he’s put out must be disregarded because he’s only up to conjecture.”
