The grassroots of the main opposition National Democratic Congress have welcomed the Ahotor project in the Ashanti Region urging the executives in charge to be transparent.
In Ashanti Region yesterday, three constituencies include: Kumawu, Agogo, and Sekyere Afram plains received their items donated by a Non-Governmental Organization founded by the former Governor of the Bank of Ghana Dr. Kwabena Duffour.
In Ashanti Region yesterday, a team of the Non-Governmental Organization led by its Project Manager for the Photo project, Abass Moro donated tents, chairs, and P.A system worth Ghc30, 000 for each constituency.
According to Abass Moro, the total cost which includes the items, transportation, and other materials amounts to GHC11, 000,000. A committee was set to steer the affairs of the projects for a successful running in each constituency.
Speaking to Agoo news, party members, branch executives, and other leaders expressed satisfaction over the Ahotor Project praising Dr. Kwabena Duffuor for this initiative which will generate money and create jobs for the grassroots.
‘’It’s a good project, when you look at Ghana today we are suffering and we believe that this project will help us in terms of financial support and other things. A lot of us, don’t get jobs, and we are suffering so this project will support us to start something on our own. For our executives or those who will be in charge, we are expecting that they will be transparent to everybody because we are all in one family… they should help everyone irrespective of where you are coming from.’’ Some of them told Ebenezer Kojo Nyavor.
In April 2022, the Former Finance Minister Dr. Kwabena Duffuor officially launched the Photo Project for grassroots members of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) in Ashaiman.
The donation includes a Public Address (PA) system, 100 plastic chairs, and 4 canopies which can be rented out to generate revenue for members.
Dr. Duffuor during the launching said the Photo Project is a real deal for progress, jobs and to generate sustainable revenue for use as welfare – such as hospital bills, funeral donations, school fees, etc.
Speaking to GHOne news Isaac Bediako, the Project Manager of the Ahotor Project, Abass Moro said; “We are doing eight Constituencies on the Ashanti which started in Drobonsu which came as a result of deliberations that culminated in the choice of Dronbosu in the Ashanti region distribution.
“The Photo project seeks to bring relief to the grassroots of the party and about political party financing, you often realize that political parties have a lot of responsibilities when it comes to mobilizing the grassroots towards attaining its stated goals which are to win political power,”
He continued: “Now, you will need a lot of logistics and financial resources as well. So the Photo project seeks to empower the grassroots of the party at the Constituency level. You can ask regional and national chairmen and they will tell you the kind of pressure on them to support the activities of the party at the local level.”
The project manager further stated that “Dr. Duffuor decided solely on his own to finance the 275 Constituencies by bringing the Photo project to their doorstep and also a response to the NDC’s call to adopt a Constituency and support the constituencies logistically and financially to make sure that the NDC come to power.”
He said the former Governor of the Bank of Ghana (BoG) has in diverse ways financed the NDC adding that “this is not the first time Dr. Duffuor is financing the NDC.”
