The Police in Ashanti Region is on the heels of one Muhamadu also known as “DUNA”, suspected to have stabbed to death Abubakari Saddiq, a 30 year old business man  during a violent confrontation between two rival factions of the youth wing of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) last Friday.

Six other suspects in Duna’s group are also being sought for by the police. They are Issah, alias Liboo, Million, Bigman, MC Baba Fuseini, Bera Sadat and another one whose name was only given as Papa.

The Regional Police Commander, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP) Kofi Boakye who briefed the press in |Kumasi on Monday said Saddiq was stabbed when the group he belonged to locked horns in a fierce fight with the rival group believed to be loyal to Mr. Paul Afoko, the recently suspended chairman of the NPP.

He was part of the other faction within the same party who detested the Afoko faction holding a meeting at the party’s office at Asawase, and had earlier besieged the place to resist the group who had returned from Accra after a demonstration to re-open the locked party office.

DCOP Kofi Boakye said the re-opening of the office which sparked the violence was masterminded by Isaac Brenya, Asawasi NPP Constiutency Chairman, together with Louis Mensah, Osman Issah and Mallam Immurana.

He said a group comprising the deceased and three others, namely Awal Tuareg, Awal Mohammed and Tanko all of Sabon Zongo suburb of Kumasi, arrived on motorbikes, confronted, vandalized the office and assaulted one Zakaria Seidu.

The Airport police after a complaint had been lodged by Mr Brenya and the victims, quickly proceeded to the scene with the complainant where they saw about 50 irate youth armed with machetes, clubs, stones and other weapons amidst loud shouts of “Brenya must go”, “Brenya must Go”.

They then called for reinforcement which arrived swiftly to take charge of the place where they later found the deceased lying in a pool of blood with a knife wound on the left side of the chest.

The police has meanwhile arrested Chairman Brenya, Bawa Musah, Luis Mensah, Zakaria Seidu, Hajia Wasila Gariba, all belonging to one faction, to assist in investigations.

DCOP Kofi Boakye has, however, assured the public that the police is on top of the situation and would never allow any individual or group to take the law into their own hands.
