The Minister for Roads and Highways, Akwasi Amoako-Atta has said government remains committed to its plan to dualize major highways across the country from the present single carriage road.

Mr. Akwasi Amoako-Atta made the remarks when he was inspecting the ongoing road construction works on the Tarkwa-Agona Nkwanta road as part of his working tour to the Western region.

He tasked officials of the Ministry of Roads and Highways engineers to align themselves with the new government policy on the construction of highways.

“…you as engineers at the Ministry should have this at the back of your mind, I don’t know whether as we work on this road provision could be made for the near future. Because government’s policy now is to try as much as possible to dualize all highways and you know the benefits of dualization.”

The Minister added: “We are getting too late on these things, single-carriage ways where vehicles cross each other is a thing of the past. The whole world has moved away from that, that is why anytime there’s an accident we record many fatalities because vehicles collide so we should have this thought whenever we are constructing highways.”
