
Lancaster University Ghana on Wednesday officially inaugurated its city campus at the A and C Square Development to better serve its growing student population.
The University opened its Ghana campus in 2013 with its partner Trans National Education Ghana Limited, with student enrolment from 67 to 225 now.
The new campus space has break out rooms, counseling offices, and career and student life offices.
It also has a dedicated executive MBA suit for the Lancaster University Executive MBA programme, a purpose built lecture theatre, tutorial and seminar rooms along with additional offices for the University’s growing academic staff.
Professor Mark Smith, the Vice Chancellor of Lancaster University, UK, speaking at the inauguration said the University decided to open its Ghana campus because, the country is considered the hub of education and the gateway to West Africa.
He said management intended to introduce more Master’s Degree programmes in the Ghana campus to improve on quality education.
The Vice Chancellor said management of the university would not compromise on quality, as such the same standard being used in the UK campus would be set for the Ghana campus.
Other innovations in the main UK campus like the Lancaster Awards scheme for students would also be introduced in the Ghana campus.
He said the Lancaster University, Ghana has entered into collaboration with Boston University in the area of public health. It will also launch a research on development policy among others.
Mr Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, the Deputy Minister of Education-in-charge of Tertiary, said the National Accreditation Board has indicated their extreme delight with the quality and standards of the Lancaster brand.
He therefore commended the University for complementing government’s efforts in providing quality education for its people.
He said government looked forward to fruitful discussions on how best to support education with policy formulation.
He assured that government would do its best to provide a conducive environment to attract investment into the education sector.
