Nigerian troops reportedly killed four suspected Boko Haram militants and freed 61 people, mostly women and children, who were held captive by the Islamist extremist group in the north-eastern Borno state.
The army is reported to have issues a statement saying that its troops that were under air cover cleared Boko Haram camps and in the process rescued 61 people abducted and held captive by the terrorists.
“The rescued persons were mainly women and children,” the military said, adding that troops also “killed four terrorists and arrested one”.
The Nigerian Army on 28 October also said that it had freed 330 people, again mostly women and children, from Boko Haram’s stronghold in Sambisa Forest, in an operation launched in the volatile northeast.
There has still not been any indication of any of the more than 200 schoolgirls seized by the terrorists group in April last year in Chibok town.
President Muhammadu Buhari who came into power in May pledged to crush Boko Haram, and has given his commanders until the end of December to defeat the militants.
