Various farmers’ groups have expressed displeasure after the Ministry of Food and Agriculture failed to invite them to the 38th National Farmers Day celebration set to take place in Koforidua on Friday, December 2, 2022.

According to the groups, including the Peasant Farmers Association of Ghana, they as stakeholders were not also included in the organization of the event, which they consider an insult.

In an interview on Ghana Kasa show on Kasapa 102.5FM/Agoo TV Thursday, the Peasant Farmers Association of Ghana, Nana Oboadie Boateng Bonsu accused some persons in the Ministry of Food and Agriculture including the Coordinator of the National Farmers Day celebration of sabotaging the Minister.

He said sidelining farmers’ groups and inviting only the award winners to the National Farmers Day event is very bad.

“The award winners will be coming to take their awards, but they don’t have any right to speak for farmers of this country. It is not their responsibility to speak on behalf of the farmers of this country. So when you give them the chance to operate then it means the Ministry is not doing its work well.”

Nana Oboadie Boateng Bonsu added: “The way the farmers’ day is organized is also wrong. You have to invite stakeholders to participate in the planning of the Farmers Day event. Find out how many stakeholders were invited. This is why I say that the National Farmers Day event is a private program that is being done and not a national event. Various farmers’ groups have not been invited to this event, we have no idea what is going on. No letters have been issued inviting farmers groups to this event which is an insult to farmers to say the least. How can anybody organize a football league in Ghana without involving the Ghana Football Association? That is not possible.”

He disclosed that some farmers have planned to stop the National Farmers Day event in Koforidua on Friday but they are being impressed upon not to do carry out their plans.
