A member of the Communications Team of the governing New Patriotic Party(NPP) Solomon Owusu has called on the Minister for Trade and Industry, Alan Kyerematen to resign now and focus on his ambition of becoming the party’s Flagbearer for the 2024 election.

Political Analysts say the NPP flagbearership race will be a keen contest between Mr. Alan Kyerematen and the incumbent Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, with some others including Energy Minister, Boakye Agyarko, Former Railways Minister, Joe Ghartey and former NPP General Secretary, Kwabena Agyepong reportedly aiming for the position.

The leadership of the party has however placed an embargo on all campaign activities until such a time when the party shall instruct aspirants to officially launch their respective campaigns.

Speaking on Ghana Kasa show on Kasapa 102.5FM/Agoo TV, Solomon Owusu who’s an aide and avowed loyalist of Alan Kyerematen said the latter has performed astoundingly in office with his achievement clear for all to see, hence the Minister can leave office with his head high up to pursue his personal ambitions.

“I totally agree with those who think it is time for Alan to resign and focus on his Presidential ambition. He’s done tremendously well in office as the Minister for Trade and Industry. He’s led the operationalization of 126 factories, ensured the location of AFCTA Headquarters in Ghana and expanded the market. He has supervised the establishment of numerous business centres, sugar from Komenda Sugar factory will very soon be on the market, and he’s ensuring that the local industries are resourced and expanded to supply at least 45% of our yards a year.”

He added: “What else do you want from such a person who has delivered efficiently at the Trade and Industry Ministry? He’s done what Napoleon could not do. It is time for him to resign from his ministerial appointment and focus on winning the NPP flagbearership contest and lead the party to a resounding victory in the 2024 election.”
