A member of the Communications Team of the governing New Patriotic Party(NPP) Solomon Owusu has appealed to President Akufo-Addo to conduct a reshuffle of his ministers as a Christmas present to Ghanaians.
There have been incessant calls on President Akufo-Addo to either reshuffle his ministers or sack those who have not met expectations six years down the line.
Former President John Agyekum Kufour interacting with the Institute of Economic Affairs (IEA) at his residence on Monday stated that heads of state should not be hesitant in sacking their appointees if they are underperforming.
According to him, it is their responsibility to take such bold decisions to keep their government on track.
President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo in August 2022 made it clear that he has no intention of reshuffling his government as to him the ministers were consistent with the expectations.
“For all you know, it is people who want to destabilise my government or people who are looking for jobs, who are behind those calls. The issue of reshuffling or performance of my ministers is a daily pre-occupation, I’m required on a daily basis to ask myself whether a particular minister is up to the mark.
“I am the final authority and if they are not up to the mark, I’m required to act. So if they are up to expectations then I don’t have any reason to heed to the calls for reshuffling,” President Akufo-Addo said.
But speaking on Ghana Kasa show on Kasapa 102.5FM/Agoo TV Wednesday, December 7, 2022, Solomon Owusu vehemently disagreed with the President’s decision not to reshuffle his ministers.
According to him, many of the current Ministers are not living up to the task assigned to them hence must be shown the exit by the President to allow competent individuals to take their place to work hard for the government to regain the confidence of Ghanaians.
“The President cannot keep on refusing to reshuffle his ministers and sacking those who are not performing. Some of the current ministers must be shown the exit because they have proven to be incompetent. We are not calling on the President to reshuffle because we need jobs to do, we are doing so because we want to save the government and the NPP so that it will be attractive to the majority of Ghanaians.
“To appease the people of this country, Mr. President, please give us a Christmas present. At least on the eve of Christmas, please save Ghanaians by reshuffling your government and bringing in competent persons before the Saviour is born. Sack the Finance Minister first so that there will be renewed confidence in the economy. Ghanaians will be happy with such a Christmas present.”
