The Central Regional Leadership of the National Democratic Congress(NDC) has pleaded with members of the Minority Caucus in Parliament to give their support and entrust confidence in the leadership of Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson as Minority Leader.

According to the Leadership, the Minority Caucus must not be divided over the appointment of Dr Forson, urging the NDC MPs to understand that leadership evolves and hence they should rally around the new leaders to deliver as was done for previous leaders.

At a press conference attended by the 23 Constituency Chairmen, the Regional Chairman, Prof. Richard Kofi Asiedu on Monday pledged their unalloyed and unflinching support to the Leadership of the Minority Caucus led by Hon. Dr. Cassiel Ato Baah Forson.

The party leadership was confident the new Minority Leader will effectively deliver his mandate.

“Ato Forson’s elevation is a plus for the NDC. Like all the leaders before him, Ato Forson will certainly discharge his duties without fear or favour.

“You have made a great history in the 4th Republic as being the first Member of Parliament in the Central Region from both sides of the political divide to be appointed as the Leader of either Minority or Majority Caucuses in Parliament. Dr. Ato Forson is the longest-serving Member of Parliament on the NDC’s ticket in the Central Region,” Chairman Prof. Richard Kofi Asiedu stated.

PRESS CONFERENCE ADDRESSED BY THE CENTRAL REGIONAL CHAIRMAN, REGIONAL VICE-CHAIRMEN AND THE 23 CONSTITUENCY CHAIRMEN OF THE NDC, ON THE APPOINTMENT OF HON. DR. CASSIEL ATO BAAH FORSON AS THE MINORITY LEADER IN PARLIAMENT.

February 6, 2023.

Good morning, distinguished ladies and gentlemen of the media and fellow Comrades.

We are happy to have you here this morning to be part of this important and maiden press conference since we assumed office.

On behalf of the leadership and the entire membership of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Central Region, we, the Regional Chairman, the Regional Vice-Chairmen and the 23 Constituency Chairmen of our great party would like to seize this opportunity to congratulate Hon. Dr. Cassiel Ato Baah Forson for his appointment as the Leader of the Minority Caucus in Parliament.

We are highly elated to hear of the appointment of Hon. Dr. Cassiel Ato Baah Forson, the illustrious son of the Central Region to lead the Minority Caucus of the Eighth (8th) Parliament of the Ghana’s Fourth (4th) Republic. You have exhibited your competence when given the opportunity as the Ranking Member of the Finance Committee. Having successfully carried yourself by hard work and pursuing your parliamentary duties with perseverance and purpose, we have no doubt on our minds that you will live up to the expectations.

We also want to seize this opportunity to congratulate Hon. Emmanuel Armah Kofi Buah and Hon. Kwame Governs Agbodza for their appointments as Deputy Minority Leader and Minority Chief Whip respectively. We warmly congratulate Hon. Ahmed Ibrahim and Hon. Comfort Doyo Ghansah for their reapportionment as the 1st and 2nd Deputy Chief Whips.

We wish to express our sincere gratitude and appreciation to the National Leadership of the party for entrusting confidence in Dr. Ato Forson, the illustrious son of the Central Region as the Leader of the Minority Caucus in Parliament. We must say that, this is well-deserving.

The Central Regional Leadership of the NDC wishes to sincerely plead with the entire Members of the Minority Caucus in Parliament to give their support and entrust confidence in the leadership of Dr. Ato Forson. We must all understand that leadership evolves. Leaders will come and go but the Caucus must not be divided. Let us all give the maximum support and rally around the new leaders to deliver as we did for our previous leaders.

At this juncture, we would like to pledge our unalloyed and unflinching support to the Leadership of the Minority Caucus led by Hon. Dr. Cassiel Ato Baah Forson. We would at all times offer prayers and work hard for the success of our parliamentary group for the betterment of Ghana.

Ato Forson’s elevation is a plus for the NDC. Like all the leaders before him, Ato Forson will certainly discharge his duties without fear or favour.

You have made a great history in the 4th Republic as being the first Member of Parliament in the Central Region from both sides of the political divide to be appointed as the Leader of either Minority or Majority Caucuses in Parliament.

Dr. Ato Forson is the longest-serving Member of Parliament on the NDC’s ticket in the Central Region. He first entered the Parliament House on the 7th January, 2009 to represent the good people of Ajumako Enyan Essiem Constituency and he has since remained their Member of Parliament. He is the only Member of Parliament on the ticket of the NDC in the Central Region who has gone beyond the third term. As the Chairman of the Central Regional NDC’s Parliamentary Caucus, he worked assiduously with the party leadership and the parliamentary candidates to win more seats for the party in the 2020 general elections.
He widens the electoral margins in every parliamentary election and maximizes the presidential votes.

In actual fact, with Dr. Ato Forson as the Minority Leader, the Leadership of Central Region NDC is confident of winning twenty (20) parliamentary seats and and over 60% presidential votes. Hon. Dr. Cassiel Ato Baah Forson is a modern leader fit for this era, and the NDC in Parliament is better off with his leadership, considering the roles he has played in the Executive, Legislature and the party.

We urge him and his team to stay focused and committed to the purpose. True stars rise to the top not by chance, but through purpose and passion. We appreciate your zeal, resilience and determination.

Friends from the media, we thank you for honouring this invitation and may God bless us all.

Thank you.

Signed

Prof. Richard Kofi Asiedu
Central Regional Chairman
National Democratic Congress
