The Police have arrested Suame Constituency Youth Organizer of the National Democratic Congress Koampa Razak Avoliya who has been charged with offensive conduct.

The embattled Youth Organiser was detained by the Police after being turned in by party executives.

He will spend the night on Wednesday in custody and expected to be arraigned on Thursday.

The Youth Organizer has told the Sofoline Police he stands by comments he made in a viral video in which he calls on youth of his party to employ violence if that was what it took to ensure victory for the NDC party in the 2024 election.

Lead Counsel Lawyer Evans Amankwah indicated that his client’s statement to the police did not mirror any repentance from his statements insisting Razak Koampa had been misinterpreted.

He told reporter Ivan Heathcote – Fumador, “He is in high spirits. He is even encouraging us to leave him to be here because he meant what he said, he is not in any way perturbed about it, but he has no intention of destabilizing the peace of this nation.”

T”hat has never been his intention and that is his statement. He was encouraging the people of the Suame Constituency that considering the kind of maltreatment NPP persons had meted to the NDC in Suame, they should fortify themselves for the coming 2024 elections because anything can happen. For that matter they should be prepared to defend themselves and that is exactly what he said. Anything said apart from that is a misinterpretation.” He argued.

The party’s National Organizer Joseph Yamin recounted what in his estimation were more vitriolic comments that the state had turned a blind eye to.

He contended the party is releasing a dossier of inciting statements of prominent members of the New Patriotic Party as it dares the police to apply an equal brush in pursuing members from both sides of the political divide.

Meanwhile, the party’s rank and file have been advised to stay away from the premises of the Sofoline Police Station where Razak Kaumpa will be held till he appears before court on Thursday.
