Ghana has received a contract to supply Turkey with 160 tonnes of honey but the deal is being threatened due to lack of facilities, funds and inadequate skills.
The situation is gradually collapsing the honey business and creating losses for the country.
The President of the Ghana Bee Keepers Association, Mr. Patrick Newman in an interview with Kasapa News said most bee farmers do not have adequate training on how to extract honey from bees thus affecting productivity.
He stated that the Association with assistance from EDAIF is organizing training for about 700 people on how to properly extract honey from bees.
Mr Newman further stated that Ghana is among one of the five selected countries by the European Union (EU) to supply the world with honey and added that only bees from Ghana has been tested by the EU to produce quality honey.
