Somalia will reopen its embassy in the United States today, 25 years after it was shut down.
Authorities have described the reopening of the embassy as a sign of progress after many years of civil war.
Around 200,000 Somalis live in the US and the reopening of the embassy in Washington will be welcome news for many of them.
The relationship between the US and Somalia has been on a steady improvement since August 2012 when Somalia ended the so-called transition period and elected new leaders.
Somalia’s President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud who took office in 2012 has held a number of meetings with US Secretary of State John Kerry.
US President Barack Obama nominated the first ambassador to Somalia in February this year, a move that proved the improving relations between the two countries.
