The Northern Electricity Distribution Company NEDCo has disconnected power to Aliu Mahama sports stadium and Bagabaga College of Education in Sagnarigu municipality and other institutions in the Northern Region.

According to NEDco the two institutions owe over 4 million Ghana cedis hence the disconnection.

Management of NEDCo began nationwide mass disconnection of power because the company loses a lot of money due to power theft which seriously impedes smooth operations of electricity company.

The disconnection team visited some institutions and some suburbs in Tamale and Sagnerigu municipalities.

The team later disconnected Bagabaga College of Education.

Speaking to Journalists after the exercise, the Managing director of NEDCo, Osman Ayuba called on residents of Talmale to pay their electricity bills regularly to avoid disconnection.

The affected institutions directors who spoke to the media after the disconnection exercise said they expected the government to pay their utility bills.

According to the electricity company, they will soon disconnect power to persons owning the company as well as check illegal connections for possible prosecutions.
