As Ghana’s economy rides choppy waters, Youth actively searching for jobs would have to demonstrate resilience through diversity in their search for employment or a viable door into entrepreneurship.

This reality headlined a one day Career Day Event held by the No Business As Usual Youth Empowerment Center (NBU YEC) to expose young persons in Kumasi to the realities of the emerging demands in the stiffly competitive job market.

Entrepreneur and Founder Nurturing Dreams Ghana Mrs. Evelyn Deladem Ansi advocated a blend of corporate experience, character cultivation and strategic partnerships as the best path for youth nursing entrepreneurial dreams in a volatile business environment.

Addressing the youth, she noted, “There is somebody who is stronger in an area where you have weaknesses. The youth must know that there are some things that no matter how much you try, your personality will fight it,“

She, however, cautioned the youth to ensure terms of every partnership are codified into contracts and signed off with due diligence to avoid future feuds that have the potential to collapse businesses.

Business Banking Team Lead with Access Bank Joseph Antwi pointed out bluntly that the job market had no place for job seekers who have nothing to add to the businesses of their prospective employers.

“If you want to enter a marketing firm, what are you ready to do to increase market share of the company? The bank will ask what value you are adding to the brand,” He explained.

He further charged the youth to acquire both hard skills learnt in the classroom and the soft skills required to work effectively and create value beyond the book.

The initiative funded by SOS cv Netherlands through SOS Children’s Villages Ghana is aimed at impacting the lives of youth by helping them make informed life choices and secure improved incomes

Four hundred beneficiaries comprising youth aged between 15 and 35 mainly graduates from first, second cycle and tertiary institutions will have the opportunity to acquire employable and entrepreneurial skills at no cost.
