The Upper East Regional Coordinating Council has extended the ban on movement of cattle, sheep, goat, pigs, donkeys and their product to the entire region to control the spread of anthrax.

Similarly, the ban on the slaughtering, sale and consumption of meat and meat products of the above stated animals is being enforced in the entire region.

The decision follows the confirmation of anthrax cases in four districts; Binduri, Bawku, Talensi and Bolgatanga Municipality as of June 7, 2023.

A statement signed by the Chief Director of the Upper East Regional Coordinating Council, Alhaji Abubakar Inusah said the anthrax vaccination of animals is extended to cover the entire region and it’s free.

It noted that the directive are to be enforced by all Municipal and District Chief Executive, Regional Environmental Health Officer and all Municipal and District Environmental Health Officers.
