Police at Mankessim in the Central Region have rescued twenty-five-year-old Kwabena Kaya after residents of Akyemfo Nankessedo in Saltpond in the Central Region attempted to lynch him for trying to steal coconut.

The suspected thief who has been identified as coconut seller was found on a coconut tree at Netro, a suburb of Mankessim trying to pluck coconut fruits without any authorization from the owners.

The residents who complained of having experienced thievery in the area lately, decided to stone the suspect to death but for the timely intervention of a police patrol team from the Mankessim Police Division.

The incident is said to have occurred on Tuesday morning August 15, 2023, around 8:30 am.

The suspect who failed to pluck a single coconut off the tree, when he was caught, refused to descend from the tree despite many threats from the incensed residents.

They then set a huge fire under the coconut tree while the suspect was at the top of the tree expecting him to fall from the tree into the fire and die but the arrival of the police saved him.

The suspect is currently with the Mankessim Police Command assisting investigation as the police seek to find his family.
