The Circuit Court in Accra sentenced a 19-year-old car washer to 17 years in jail on Monday for robbery.
According to the prosecution, the incident resulted in his stabbing a woman he robbed, who is now in critical condition in the hospital.
On his first day in court, Christopher Amolee entered a plea of guilty by way of a simple plea to the allegation of robbery in violation of Section 149 of the Act 29/60.
The court, presided over by Her Honor Mrs. Afia Owusuaa Appiah, subsequently found him guilty based on his own admission.
Amolee is suspected of carrying out the crime on August 9, 2023, in Sakomono, Greater Accra Region, and making off with the victim’s GHc976.00 in cash.
Amolee, who appeared sober in court, described what happened before being sentenced but said he had no idea what had driven him to do it.
Since he had nowhere to go, he also begged the court to have mercy on him and asked his owner to forgive him and take him back.
In addition, he informed the court that the only person he knows is his master, whom he had wronged before receiving his punishment.
The convict who showed up in court without a lawyer after being found guilty had a lawyer who was pleading with the judge to temper justice with kindness and give him the least amount of punishment.
He argued that it appeared to be a case of poor stealing based on the convict’s demeanor and his explanation to the court.
Inspector Wisdom Alorwu, the prosecuting officer, pleaded with the court to impose a punishment that would be commensurate with the seriousness of the crime and take into account the victim’s precarious health.

The court also stated that it considered the defendant’s age, the aggravating injury to the victim, and the fact that the defendant and the complainant were in a fiduciary relationship.

The victim’s husband, the complainant, reportedly broke down in tears as the defendant was punished, according to EIB Network’s Legal Affairs Correspondent Murtala Inusah, who was present in court.

Adiza Tinogah, the victim and the complainant’s wife, was discovered lying in a pool of blood by the police squad commanded by inspector Frank Sampana, according to Inspector Alorwu.
According to the prosecutor, G/Sergeant Abraham Dwamena swiftly transported the victim to the C&J Hospital.
Inspector Alorwu reported that the remaining police officers searched the area before arresting Christopher Amolee. During a search of him, the victim’s handgun, a woman’s purse holding money, and other items were found.
According to the prosecutor, the investigation was expanded to include the victim’s home, where blood stains were discovered everywhere, including on a butcher’s knife that was discovered laying in the home’s garden.
According to him, the police followed up on their inquiries at the C&J Hospital, where they encountered the victim just before she was to be taken for additional treatment to the Korle-bu Teaching Hospital.
The Prosecutor said, the Accused admitted the offence in his caution statement. The crime scene has been preserved and the police crime scene team have been contacted to come and process the scene to enhance investigations.
