The Ashanti regional chairman of the New Patriotic Party Bernard Antwi Boasiako has taken it hard at the Electoral Commission for annulling the ballot of the region’s Youth Organizer.
Ralph Safo Patrick’s ballot was flagged and excluded from the process after he displayed his secrete vote, openly to the public.
Speaking to the media, however, Chairman Wuntumi argued that the infraction did not amount to an offense that warranted an annulment.
He asked reporters, “haven’t you cheated on your wives before? Don’t you have a girlfriend? Has that resulted in your wife rejecting you? It’s a mere offense that might not look like your family affairs but this was just a misconduct,” he opined.
He insisted the youth organizer cannot be the subject of criticism, contending he did not come to the KNUST Law School voting center fomenting violence and misbehaving.
Commenting on the development, Majority Leader and Member of Parliament for Suame Osei Kyei Mensah Bonsu expressed reservations with the punitive action taken by the Electoral Commission.
He admitted that the act could have been against some rules but disagreed that the act could suffice for a direct breach of any electoral laws that attracted such a sanction.
Meanwhile, the Alan Kyeremanteng camp has described the conduct of the Ashanti Regional Youth Organizer Ralph Safo Patrick as part of a gamut of ill motived tactics incubated by the Bawumia camp to intimidate delegates of the other contesting candidates.
Spokesperson Yaw Buabeng Asamoah insisted, “the youth organizer showed the whole people that he had voted for Bawumia and that is one of the ways they are using across the country to intimidate our members,”
As at midday, the Ashanti Region was left with a handful of delegates to vote as Chairman Wontumi stood by to cast his vote as the final ballot to enter the box.
