At least two persons have been confirmed dead in gun violence at Adoagyiri in the Eastern Region.

The deadly gun attack which occured Tuesday evening is related to chieftaincy dispute in the community.

Eyewitnesses say the gunmen believed to be members of Okyeman Land protection taskforce and henchmen were escorting a rival chief enstooled a week ago after swearing an oath of allegiance to Okyenhene today.

They reportedly opened fire upon arrival in the community killing one person while a member of the taskforce was mistakenly gunned down.

Two others sustained gunshot injuries.

Police have meanwhile restored calm.

The incident is happening few days after angry Sub -chiefs and residents of Adoagyiri in the Eastern Region threatened bloody clash if Okyenhene Osagyefuo Amoatia Ofori Panin is not stopped from a planned outdooring of the rival chief enstooled a week ago at Adoagyiri.

There has been heightened tension between Akyem Abuakwa and Akyem Kotoku traditional councils following enstoolment of the rival chief of Adoagyiri, Barima Adu Korkor III on Saturday 19th August, 2023 under heavily armed police and Okyeman Taskforce.

The opposing faction from Akyem Kotoku say Adoagyiri has legitimately gazetted chief for the past 15 years in the person of Okoanadwo Afutu Dompreh II therefore described the enstoolment of a parallel chief as threat to national security.
