Solomon Owusu, a member of the Campaign Team of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Flagbearer hopeful, Alan Kyerematen has said the team will not rely on the Ghana Police service to provide security at the Presidential primary as it does not trust the law enforcement agency to be impartial.

According to him, Team Alan will provide its own security for all the polling agents as the police have amply demonstrated as it happened in the North East Region that it is not ready to be fair to all parties contesting in the upcoming crucial election.

His comment comes after the North East Regional Coordinator for flagbearer hopeful, Alan Kwadwo Kyeremanten was attacked during Saturday, August 26, 2023, Super Delegates Conference at Nalerigu.

Ali Zakaria, was assaulted by some unidentified persons after he raised issues with some voters who showed their ballot paper to the gathering after voting which is against the party’s rules governing the super delegates conference.

The assault resulted in his eye swelling and bloody face. He was rushed to the regional hospital for treatment.

Commenting on the issue on Ghana Kasa on Kasapa 102.5FM/Agoo TV Wednesday, Solomon Owusu an avowed loyalist of Alan Kyerematen condemned the act and slammed the Ghana Police Service for not acting to bring the perpetrators to book.

“When Alan’s polling agent, Ali Zakaria was being beaten at the Polling Centre [Dining Hall of Nalerigu SHS] and our Rep asked the Police North East Regional Police Commander if he’ll not intervene, the Commander said he came there to protect the ballot and not to protect lives. As we speak the IGP has not issued a statement on this matter, the Youth Organizer and the Nasara Coordinator have not been arrested and we think that all is well” He quizzed?

Solomon Owusu stressed that members of Team Alan cannot entrust their lives into the hands of the police who appear to side with Vice President Bawumia’s camp.

“In any case, what instruction did the Police Commander and the personnel at North East receive from the Chairman of the Police Council which happens to Vice President Bawumia who was also an active participant in the whole exercise?… I have no doubt in my mind that the Vice President ordered the police to act the way they did. If it were not so, by now, he would have called the IGP to order and by now the Police administration would have issued an official statement on the matter. Team Alan is going to do a lot of things and we’ll get to the bottom of the matter.

“…At the 4th of November election, we will go with our own referee, keeper and everything. I have told you that the police do not like Team Alan. Every agent of Alan at the polling station will be assured of security. We will make arrangements for our own protection. Someone has been beaten for doing a legitimate work while the police looked on, and you want us to still believe these same police?, no, that can’t be possible.”
