A Deputy Minister of Local Government and Rural Development (MLGRD) Nii Lantey Vanderpuije, has endorsed the current Mayor of Accra, Alfred OKo Vanderpuije, as the best in Ghana’s recent history.
The endorsement comes hours after he stopped a demolition exercise by the mayor’s office in the Odododiodio Constituency – where he is Member of Parliament – insisting it was illegal.
“I still think he is the best mayor we’ve had in recent times.”
He told Fiifi Banson on Anopa Kasapa on Kasapa 102.3 FM that the indiscriminate demolition in the area affected structures which ought not to have been demolished hence his protest.
He however explained that he was’t against the the spirit of the demolition but asked that the Metropolitan Assembly make an announcement before they embark on it.
The Minister reminded the MMDAs to always submit a request to the Ministry on any intended demolition exercise for thorough checks to be done.
