A dying Palm wine tapper has been neglected by his family at the emergency ward of the Ajumako Enyan Essiam District Hospital in the Central Region.

Information gathered by EIB Network Central Regional Correspondent, Yaw Boagyan indicates that the palm wine tapper, Kwesi Afful, 70, who hails from Ampia Ajumako, was admitted at the Hospital for a heart disease.

But he has been neglected by his family for over one month as he battles for his life.

He is said to be soliciting money from other patients at the hospital, nurses and food vendors to buy food and drugs but all the money has been exhausted.

According to the victim, his family brought him to the hospital for treatment but left him at the emergency and never returned till date.

He said the illness keeps worsening by the day   because he’s unable to buy drugs due to lack of fund.

“I feel like poisoning myself because my family has neglected me and I don’t have anybody to turn to, for help,” Kwesi Afful said in an interview.

He is appealing to the general public, NGOs and private individuals to support him.

Meanwhile, the Deputy Nurse Manager for the Ajumako District Government Hospital Mrs. Woodelia Dadzie confirmed the victim’s situation keeps worsening everyday.

She said the patient needs blood infusion and some drugs but he doesnt have money to afford them.

She said, they need the family members to donate blood for him but they are nowhere to be found.

Madam Woodelia Dadzie disclosed that the hospital often records such cases where patients are brought to the facility and later abandoned by the family.

She said sometimes, nurses and the hospital administration have to uuse their own pocket money to take care of the patients are neglected by their family, a situation which is very worrying.

On his part, the Administrator of the Ajumako District Government Hospital, Lawyer Kennedy Ishmael Amissah said apart from patients being neglected by their family members when on admission, some of the Hospital staff are being attacks by armed men at their residency.

He said the hospital needs to be fenced to prevent armed men from attacking the health workers and also prevent land encroachment.

Per checks conducted, the Ajumako District Government Hospital does not have an ambulance which makes referrals to the other hospitals difficult.

All the two ambulances of the hospital have been faulty for may years and are parked, while the hospital also lacks adequate staff.
