Over 500 angry Youth have clashed with police officers in a demonstration at Winneba in the Effutu Municipality of the Central Region.

The law enforcement officers who were preventing the angry Youth from entering the Effutu Municipal Assembly premises were stoned resulting in three Policemen and four civilians sustaining injuries.

On Tuesday December 5, 2023, the incensed Youth and opinion leaders hit the streets to show their displeasure over the sale of the forest which is also a ramsar site and serves as a hunting place for their Aboakyire Festival.

They warned the Effutu Municipal Chief Executive and those behind the sale to desist from selling it.

A former National Democratic Congress (NDC) Parliamentary candidate, James Kofi Annan addressing a Press Conference served notice that the Youth of Effutu will disallow the authorities from selling the forest for mining of lithium.

Some of the demonstrators who spoke to Kasapa News Yaw Boagyan vowed to do everything possible including shedding their blood to stop authorities from selling their forest.

Meanwhile, ten of the demonstrators have been arrested and are in the custody of the Winneba Police Command, while the injured Police officers are receiving treatment at the Hospital.
