The National Executive Committee (NEC) and the National Council (NC) of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) will Wednesday, December 6, 2023, meet to deliberate on a probable running mates for its flagbearer, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.

The meeting which will be held at the Alisa Hotel at 1pm will centre on primarily focus on persons the party thinks have the potential to work well with Dr. Bawumia and help win the election in 2024.

Today’s meeting will be chaired by Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia as President Akufo-Addo is currently abroad.

Ministers such as Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum (Education Minister), Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu (Minister for Parliamentary Affairs & Majority Leader), Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh (Energy Minister), are said to be the leading candidates.

After the NEC discusses the suitability of the candidates, they will subsequently present its recommendation to the National Council for approval.

Per the NPP’s constitution, the selection of a running mate must be done 12 months prior to a major election if the President is not the candidate.
