The Deputy Minority leader and MP for Ellembelle, Hon Emmanuel Armah Kofi Buah has called on all stakeholders in the country to fight the galamsey menace devoid of any partisan interests.

He made this appeal when he led a team of journalists in the Western Region to visit some galamsey sites in the Ellembelle constituency of the Western Region.

Hon. Kofi Buah lamented how cocoa farmers in the constituency are losing out on their livelihoods and businesses due to the galamsey menace.

“I am saying that based in what I have seen here…I have mentioned government led by the President himself, and all the agencies, mining inspectorate, EPA, the institutions have a role to play here. This represents failure. The DISEC, DCE, you can add me the MP. I am sitting in Accra always contributing to statements about the dangers of galamsey, this is my backyard.

“This holiday and entering the new year I am saying let’s have a new leadership on how to deal with it. Let’s all sit down, the DCE, the Chiefs, this is not good for our future and our children. What’s the solution, let’s find it. Let’s make sure we don’t pollute the Ankobra, the Amanzule. Let’s do something because we cannot continue like this.”

Galamsey has been a major headache confronting the country. Successive governments have put in various measures to deal with the menace.

Various measures by the present governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) government to fight the menace seems to be in futility as most water bodies, forest reserves and the environment are threatened posing a danger for future generations.
