Former Deputy Minister of Education under the John Mahama administration, Alex Kyeremeh has described the current Minister of Education, Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum as woefully incompetent in the management of the country’s education sector.
Speaking on Ghana Kasa show on Kasapa FM Thursday, Hon. Kyeremeh who expressed worry over the state of education in the country, said Minister of Education has no clue as to how to manage the education sector which has left it with many challenges especially at the senior high school level.
”I’ve been around for sometime, I witnessed the likes of Prof. Amfom, K.B Asante and Prof. Fobih as Education Ministers. When I rate the performance of past Education Ministers, our current Minister of Education, Dr. Adutwum comes last. Oh yes!, I’m being honest. He has no clue how to manage the education sector of a country and I am saying this in public.”
The former MP for Techiman North added ”He used to teach mathematics at Manual Arts High School while in the United States of America. By the time he was leaving that school, it was almost folding up because the drop out rate was about 62%. So the school which had a student population of about 3000, when the Minister was leaving they were left with about 1000 students. He then decided to establish his own school known as New Design Chartered School. That is where he was until he relocated to Ghana. The Minister is not good when it comes to managing education.”
The NDC National Treasurer called on the Minister to convene a stakeholders dialogue in order to turn around the education sector.
”The only thing the Minister can do to help improve on education in Ghana is to call a stakeholders conference so that there will be brainstorming on the state of our schools not only the senior high schools. I will gladly attend such a conference to share my knowledge on how we can all help to make Ghana’s education system better.”
