Over 20 container shops have been gutted by fire close to the Kasoa New Market in the Awutu Senya East District of the Central Region.

The Operations Officer of the Budumburam Fire Station, ADO 1 Charles Naam-Were, speaking to Kasapa News said the fire started around 5:30 PM on Saturday, January 20, 2024.

It burnt down several shops nearby and destroyed all their contents.

He said the cause of the fire was not immediately known, but the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) had launched investigations into the incident.

Meanwhile, some shop owners who have lost their properties expressed shock over the incident and alleged that the fire was started by human error.

Properties such as television sets, refrigerators, cars and other items were destroyed.

They blamed the fire service personnel for allowing the fire to destroy their properties due to their delaying.

They said, several calls to reach the fire service station at Kasoa proved futile untill they called another District before they responded.

They said, some residents brought water from their homes to help fight the fire before the arrival of the fire service personnes.

They appealed for more fire tender as the whole Awutu Senya East District is having only one fire tender.

They appealed to the Member of Parliament for Awutu Senya East Constituency not to wait till election before responding to their need but must try and support the District with more fire tenders.
