GJA President, Albert Dwumfuor

The New Patriotic Party in Awutu Senya East constituency has accused the Ghana Journalist Association (GJA) of personal vendetta against the Member of Parliament for Awutu Senya East and Fisheries and Aquaculture Development Minister, Hawa Koomson.

This comes after the GJA President, Albert Kwabena Dwumfour at a press conference on Thursday, January 25, 2024, appealed to media houses and journalists to institute a media blackout on Hon. Hawa Koomson.

It follows the failure of the police to arrest some 15 persons believed to be supporters of the MP who attacked one David Kobina, a journalist and Morning Show Host of Cape FM while covering the vetting of parliamentary aspirants at the Central Regional Coordinating Council at Cape Coast on January 4, 2024.

Speaking to Starr News, the NPP Secretary for the Awutu Senya East constituency, Michael Addy demanded an unqualified apology from the Ghana Journalist Association.

”We are at a loss as to how the GJA President could make a pronouncement that Hon. Mavis Koomson and the team are very dagerous people who can even go to churches, mosques and houses to kill people. We demand an immediate retraction and an unqualified apology from him, unless he has evidence to battress the pronouncement.

”We think that if he has any personal scores to settle with Hon. Hawa Koomson he must move away from using the Association’s brand and image. If you do a logical deduction, the only conclusion you will arrive at is that there is somebody who wants to taint the hard-earned reputation of Hawa Koomson and the person feels that the only vehicle to use is the Ghana Journalist Association.”
