History has been made in Parliament on Friday, February 16, 2024 where an ordinary member of Parliament other than the Speaker of deputies was chosen to preside over proceedings.
Speaker of Parliament Alban Bagbin, his first deputy Joseph Osei-Owusu, second deputy Andrew Asiamah were all absent today.
Per Order 12 (4) of the standing orders, the Clerk of Parliament presided over proceedings for the house to select a member to take the chair.
Majority chief whip Frank Annoh-Dompreh proposed the name of Sunyani East MP Ameyaw Cheremeh which was seconded by his minority counterpart Governs Kwame Agbodza.
The house consequently approved the nomination for the MP to take the seat for the first time in the history of the Legislature.
