The President,Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, today delivered a bombshell during state of the nation address by revealing the total cost of the entire La-General Hospital Project.
The President satisfying Article 67 of the 1992 constitution and reading his penultimate State of the Nation Address, told Ghanaians, he was happy to inform the country that a new source of funding for the building of the La-General Hospital has been found. He went further to explain that government has so far provided advance mobilisation of 15% of the total cost of the project which is $7.5m to the contractor.
The advance mobilisation of 15% which amounts to $7.5m therefore means the entire project will cost government a whopping $50m.
The amount of $50m therefore calls for further and better particulars of the project to ensure that value for money is assured. It is however interesting that a whole hospital that will save lives of innocent Ghanaians upon completion will cost $50m whiles the National Cathedral project at the time it was halted had already cost the state an amount of $50m.
The development therefore shows that if government had not been reckless, the La-General Hospital would long have been completed.
This situation therefore brings to fore, how we expend state resources.Any prudent manager of an economy would not sacrifice the health needs of the people for prayers and that prayers at best can happen even in people’s rooms.
Ghanaians are therefore being reminded that with prudent management, the country could do more to ameliorate the sufferings of the masses. Election 2024 therefore becomes an important excercise where only a candidate who has credibility, character and competence should be considered by the good people of this country.
On the balance of scale and probability, there can only be one candidate going into election 2024 who fits the bill and is none other than Alan Kyerematen.
