It has emerged that 534 cases out of 1,665 referred for settlement through Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) in the Central Region in 2023 were settled.

This represents a settlement rate of 32%.

At the national level, out of the 77,264 court cases filed, 36,191 were successfully mediated, representing a 47 % settlement rate.

Her Ladyship Justice Angelina Mensah-Homia, Justice of the Court of Appeal and Judge-in-charge of ADR emphasized the important role ADR is playing in resolving the many court cases that would have piled up in the courts.

She noted that the Alternative Dispute Resolution concept serves as a complement to the Traditional Court System in making access to justice cheaper, easier, expeditious, non-adversarial, reliable and faster for the citizenry.

Her Ladyship Justice Angelina Mensah-Homia, who was speaking at a Public Durbar on ADR under the asupices of the Judicial Service of Ghana encouraged Ghanains to accept the ADR to assist in settling most pending court cases in the Country.

Meanwhile Central Regional Supervising High Court Judge Justice Kofi Akto Owia on his part appealed to Government to increased the salaries of Judges and Judicial Service Workers.

He said, most of them receive low salaries which makes it difficult for them to effectively discharge their duties.

He urged the government to build more courts to handle the huge number of cases which are pending for several years.
