The Member of Parliament for Adansi Asokwa and Minister for Trade and Industry K.T Hammond on Tuesday, March 5, 2024 took the seat as Speaker in the absence of Alban Bagbin and his two deputies.

The speaker had announced to the House he had visitors to attend to and thus was compelled to adjourn sitting in the absence of his deputies.

His first deputy Joseph Osei-Owusu was chairing the Appointments Committee sitting which is vetting President Akufo-Addo’s ministerial nominees.

The 2nd deputy, Andrew Asiamah was also not present in the chamber.

Ningo-Prampram MP, Sam George suggested to the Speaker to rather make K.T Hammond member presiding in his absence since the debate on the President’s SONA was still ongoing.

The Speaker after initial humourous comments that the Adansi Asokwa MP cannot control the house, relinquished his seat.

K.T Hammond has thus become the second MP ever to preside over proceedings either than the Speaker or the deputies. The first MP was that of Sunyani East Kwasi Ameyaw-Cheremeh who took the seats a few weeks ago.
