Deputy Chairperson of the Electoral Commission in-charge-of Operations Samuel Tettey has debunked claims by the Minority Leader, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson on the 7 missing Biometric Voter Devices (BVDs).

According to Samuel Tettey, only 5 laptop are missing and not BVDs.

The Minority in Parliament on Tuesday March 19, 2024 led by Minority Leader Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson in a press conference raised alarm over 7 missing biometric verification devices of the Electoral Commission and demanded detailed report of police investigations arguing the development could compromise this year’s elections.

According to the NDC MPs, the EC led by Chairperson Jean Adukwei Mensah in a meeting with leadership of Parliament confirmed the development.

But Deputy chairperson in-charge-of Operations of the election management body, Samuel Tettey at a Let the Citizen Know Series on Wednesday, March 20, 2024 said the allegations are blatant falsehoods and should be treated with the contempt they deserve.

He said the EC detected only 5 missing laptops and not Biometric Verification Devices.

”To set the record straight, the Commission recently undertook routine servicing of its biometric voter registration kits. It was during the maintenance that we discovered the theft of five laptops from the biometric voter registration kits, not seven BVDs as erroneously stated.

”For clarification, biometric voter registration kits comprise of a laptop, camera, scanner and printer are entirely seperate from the Commission’s registration data systems and are incapable of manipulating election outcomes as suggested. These kits though crucial for voter registration requires specific activation to function. Without such activation, they serve no purpose beyond their individual components as a laptop, camera, scanner or printer. What this means is that they are of no value beyond what they were manufactured to be.”
