Teachers and students of Pokukrom Ibrahimgya Islamic Junior High School (JHS) in the Ahafo Ano-South East District of the Ashanti Region are stranded as the Chief Executive Officer of Masum Construction Limited, Abu Masum, has locked up the school due to government’s prolonged delay in settling payment after construction of six unit class room blocks for the farming community.
According to Abu Masum, the move is a protest against the government and the Ministry of Education for failure to pay him for the work done.
On Wednesday 20th March 2023, the contractor stormed the school and unfortunately walked out students and teaching staff and locked the classrooms.
The action of Mr. Abu compelled both teachers and students to return home as the Pokukrom community expressed disappointment in the building contractor who is also a member of the Islamic community for his action against the school.
District Chief executive of the Ahafo Ano South East Thomas Owusu Ansah, when contacted confirmed the incident and assured to resolve the issue as soon as posible for teachers and students in the community to return to school.
He admitted the contractor’s concern is legitimate but condemned his approach to the issue which documentation have already been processed for payment.
