TOTTENHAM are still paying striker Emmanuel Adebayor his full wages of £100,000 a week, despite releasing him from his contract three months ago.

The Togo striker is still the highest earner at White Hart Lane, double the salary picked up by England star Harry Kane, even though his last appearance was in May.

Adebayor, 31, is being paid in full by Spurs until he finds a new club or until the end of the season, when his contract runs out.

The amazing situation means any Premier League clubs interested in signing the former Arsenal and Manchester City striker must first agree a deal with Spurs.

Adebayor was released from his contract with Tottenham by mutual agreement. Manager Mauricio Pochettino said in September: “I think it is clear he is not in my mind or in the plans for the future of Tottenham.

“It is not a problem for him or a problem for us.We are always available to help him, we have a good relationship. The only problem now is to find a solution for him and a solution for the club, something that is good for both sides.”

The striker has been spending his time at home in Togo although it is understood he is now back in England trying to find a new club after a string of deals fell through.

Watford are interested but Adebayor believes he could strike a deal in January with Chelsea, where Diego Costa is having a miserable time with manager Jose Mourinho. Adebayor played for Mourinho at Real Madrid and the pair are understood to have a good relationship.

Adebayor almost moved to West Ham in January but the deal fell through over fitness concerns. Then in the summer a move to Aston Villa was on the cards until Adebayor pulled the plug, claiming God didn’t want him to switch to Villa Park.

The Hammers tried to sign him again late in the summer window, but he did not turn up for a medical. By the time Adebayor was ready to speak to manager Slaven Bilic, the Hammers had already agreed a loan move for Chelsea striker Victor Moses.
