Some members of Alan Kyerematen’s Movement for Change who have defected to the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) have vehemently denied being financially induced to make the move.

A group known as the Nationwide Supporters of Alan Cash (NAWSAC) have strongly criticised the NPP for allegedly attempting to bribe the youth to abandon their support for Alan Kyerematen’s Movement for Change and join the NPP.

In a statement released on Monday, April 22, 2024, NAWSAC expressed concern over the NPP’s underhanded tactics and urged the youth not to be swayed by financial inducements.

But the group of defectors led by former NPP parliamentary candidate aspirant for Adentan, Alfred Ababio Kumi, said his group of about 6000 members decided to move back to the NPP after doing a self-introspection.

According to him, his group of young politicians made a rush decision in leaving the NPP to join the Movement For Change.

Alfred Kumi Ababio emphasized that they decided to go back to their original party out of the own volition and not because they have been influenced financially.

“We have not moved back to the NPP because we received bribe. I am looking for that money, if they give us we’ll take but we have not been given a dime. We were carried away by emotions and we left the NPP for the Movement for Change. But having made an introspection, we decided to go back to the NPP because we believe Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia will make a better President for Ghana.

“We are committed to seeing Dr Bawumia becoming the next President of Ghana and nothing will stop us from realizing this goal. NPP is home and we are back.”
