The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration has advised Ghanaians to avoid travelling to the Gao and Ansongo regions of Northern Mali.

According to the Ministry, the major highways linking Mali and Niger, particularly the Gao and Ansongo Regions of Northern regions of Mali have recorded terrorists harassment of commuters who ply the routes.

In a statement the Ministry said it “remains committed to the safety of Ghanaians and will provide updates on the security situation in the region under reference in due course. The Ministry further urges the Ghanaian public to always prioritise their safety when travelling.”
