A former Municipal Chief Executive for the Obuasi Municipal Assembly and member of the John Dramani Mahama campaign team has dared the New Patriotic Party to produce a single document showing that a minister under the NPP appended a signature for a Euroget loan for the construction of hospitals.

Richard Akwasi Ofori Agyemang Boadi, popularly known as King Zuba, insists while former President J.A. Kufuor initiated the process, the NDC government secured funding for all the Eurojet projects in the Ashanti Region.

He challenged any NPP member to show a signed document from a former Kufuor minister that they secured loans for these projects.

“Monies secured for the funding of all the Eurojet projects were signed by Dr. Kwabena Dufuor under NDC. The release for those monies were loans. All these were rectified by Parliament and was done by Dr. Kwabena Dufuor the Former Finance Minister,”

There’s no Kufuor Minister who can give us a signed document that suggest he secured loans for those projects. I dare them if they can show me one, I’ll vote for Bawumia,” he noted.

On assumption of office of the NDC in the year 2009 the forth parliament under the presidency of H.E. John Agyekum Kuffour had accented the $339million, 8-Number Hospitals project by Euroget De Invest.

The terms of reference for the initiative which was later codenamed the “Ghana Hospital Project”, was to design, construct and equip one Military Hospital, two Regional Hospitals and six District Hospitals in Ghana.

Out of the nine projects given on contract to the Egyptian Company; four (4) comprising the 250-Bed Regional Hospital in Sewua; the 60-Bed District Hospital, Konongo-Odumasi; 60-Bed District Hospital at Tepa and a 500-bed Military hospital were allocated to the Ashanti Region.

Delayed Projects:

The former Obuasi MCE indicated that for eight years, the New Patriotic Party has only added 8% of progress to the Fomena Government Hospital.

According to King Zuba, the NDC government used less than 4 years to start and reach 92% completion of the Fomena Hospital project. In contrast, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) government has used 8 years to add only 8% to the project’s progress.

“I became Chief Executive before we even cut sod for Fomena Project. I became the MCE for Obuasi on 18th of July 2013, and if we used 4 years to build the facility, before the NPP came into office, it was 92% complete. It has taken the NPP 8 years to just add 8%,” he stated.

NDC’s Health Achievements in Ashanti Region

Speaking with Kojo Marfo on Abusua Nkommo at ABUSUA965FM, Zuba highlighted some of the health achievements initiated by the NDC government in the Ashanti Region, such as the installation of the first MRI scanner in Ghana at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital.

“If you recall, before Mahama became President, our national football team (Black Satellites) was about to go for a tournament and a medical check needed to be done to verify the players’ ages. The players were sent outside Ghana because we didn’t have an MRI (Magnetic Resonance Imaging) scanner, which was required. The truth of the matter is that there was no such machine in Ghana.

When Mills and Mahama heard that Ghana didn’t have an MRI scanner, they were saddened and decided to fix the issue. Indeed, they did fix it”.

If you go to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH), the first facility in the white building you see there is the MRI center. It was commissioned on the 6th of November 2012″, he stressed.

He further indicated that the NDC finds no need boasting about these projects because it deems it their responsibility to provide such essential medical infrastructure for the country”, he stated
