About 128,000 people have been registered in the Ashanti region during the Electoral Commission’s limited voter registration exercise across the 47 constituencies in the region.
Majority of the registered voters, according to the Ashanti Regional Director of the Electoral commission, Benjamin Banor-Bio were people between 18- 21years.
The EC on 29th May 2024 ended the limited registration for young applicants who have now turned 18 years and above.
The exercise in the first two days was full of challenges as a result of unstable internet connectivity to the Commission’s digital equipment.
This compelled the commission to extend the registration exercise by two more days ending the exercise on 29th May 2024.
In all 1,566 applicants were challenged, 821 constituting 52.4% were challenged for being under age while 36.2% were challenged for not being resident of their respective electoral areas.
Those who were challenged are currently appearing before the electoral commission’s district electoral committees across the region over their age and area of residence.
