Five persons have petitioned the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ) to probe former Minister for Sanitation, Cecilia Dapaah for allegedly acquiring assets out of proportion to her earnings.
The petitioners are Bernard Anbataayela Mornah, Mensah Thompson, Al-Hassan Kwadwo Baidoo, Ransford Antwi, and Joyce Atitso.
Madam Dapaah became a subject of both media and public attention after news of theft at her home involving huge sums of money and Jewellery went viral.
The stolen items included – $1 million, €300,000, and GH¢350,00 in addition to luxury handbags valued at $35,000 and $95,000 worth of Jewellery.
This brouhaha surrounding the theft of the items, resulted in her resignation in July 2023.
Madam Dapaah was subsequently arrested by officers from the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP), who discovered over GH¢48 million in her accounts.
The OSP collaborated with the Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI) in almost seven months investigation. However, the OSP dropped the charges due to insufficient evidence and transferred the case to the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO).
But, EOCO, also handed back the docket to the OSP, due to lack of evidence.
The petitioners in their request dated May 20 is asking CHRAJ to thoroughly investigate the former Minister’s assets, including $1 million, €300,000, and GH¢350,000.
“…More importantly, we are fortified in the need for this investigation because during interrogation by the OSP as to the source of her income, Madam Cecilia Dapaah could not give any proper explanation.”
