Celebrity Afro-dancehall performer Livingstone Etse Satekla, better known by his stage as Stonebwoy, has taken entertainment critic and aspiring politician Sadiq Abdulai Abu, also known as Baba Sadiq, to court over remarks the politician made on his X page (previously known as Twitter).

In a writ filed in the High Court of Justice on 31 May 2024, the newly crowned Ghanaian Artist of the Year is asking the court to order Baba Sadiq to delete and render an unqualified apology to Stonebwoy for the offending tweets.

In addition, Stonebwoy is requesting that the court provide him GHS 3 million in damages for the injury that the tweets have done to his reputation. This is based on the fact that Stonebwoy knows that Baba Sadiq published claims that were untrue, acting deliberately and with the intention of defaming him.

For a section of the public who are aware of the circumstances behind the tweets, the lawsuit comes to them as no surprise after Sadiq’s unsettling remarks—which implied that Stonebwoy is a violent abuser of women—social media users have voiced alarm.
