One person has been shot dead, while three persons are injured after a group of land guards numbering about 15 attacked construction workers at Tebu in the GA South Municipality of the Greater Accra Region.

The deceased Gabriel aka Alekye was one of some four persons who were shot by suspected land guards on Friday June 14, 2024.

The landguards had demanded from the victims a digging fee resulting in a heated confrontation and in the process a second batch of landguards arrived at the scene and began shooting sporadically resulting in the injuries.

The victims were rushed to a private hospital in Danchira but the deceased whose condition grew critical was transferred to the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital in Accra where he was later pronounced dead.

According to Joseph Aidoo who escaped from the attack, the rate at which landguards are disturbing them in the community is beyond their imagination.

Meanwhile Assembly Member for Danchira Electoral Area Ebenezer Ahotor said the issue of land guards activities is getting out of hand as they have been killing and terrorizing innocent people including military officers who have bought land in the area.

He said, they have reported how landguards are killing people in the area to the police but nothing is being done about it.

He is appealing to the government to do something about the landguards manace.
