The Ghana Grid Company (GRIDCo) is ready to feed  into the national grid with power generated from the Karpowership barge.

GRIDCo officials say the power barge was connected to the national grid days ago.

Chief Executive of GRIDCo, Engineer William Amuna in an interview with Accra-based Citi FM said the various tests needed on the facility have been carried out pending transmission.

He said they’re awaiting the completion of some mechanical works being carried out on the barge to pave way for the final transmission.

Meanwhile the 225 megawatt Karpowership (Aysegul Sultan) will consume an estimated 30,000 to 35,000 tonnes of Heavy Fuel Oil (HFO) per month, which translates into close to US$9million per October HFO (Rotterdam) price of US$254 per tonne.

The Karpowership deal is part of the medium term measures contracted by government to mitigate the effects of the power crisis.
