The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has set July 14 for the party’s parliamentary primary to elect a candidate to fill the Manhyia South parliamentary seat, following Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh’s selection as the party’s running mate for the 2024 presidential election.

Six aspirants have expressed interest in contesting the seat, including Nana Owusu Afriyie Prempeh, Manhyia South constituency treasurer and biological brother of Dr. Opoku Prempeh.

The other aspirants are:

  1. Nana Ama Timah, deputy chief executive at the Petroleum Hub Development Corporation,
  2. Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah, private legal practitioner,
  3. Akwasi Coker Gyambibi,
  4. Kingsley Bonsu Kyeretwie, second vice chairman for NPP in Manhyia South.
  5. Kwabena Addo Amankwah
  6. Owusu Afriyie Prempeh

Posters of the aspirants have surfaced on social media, and other potential candidates are engaging with delegates in private meetings to garner their support ahead of the primary.

The constituency is expected to witness intense political activity as aspirants vie to succeed Dr. Opoku Prempeh, who has been a prominent figure in the area since 2008.
