A 34-year-old taxi driver, identified as Kofi, has been shot to death by highway armed robbers while driving from Ahenekro to Boaman in the Afigya Kwabere district of the Ashanti region.
The incident occurred on Saturday, July 6, 2024, around 10 pm between Kwaman and Ahenkro. Eyewitnesses reported that the deceased was shot with an alleged AK47 rifle.
Community members alleged that the police failed to respond promptly to the incident, citing a lack of fuel for their vehicle.
This delayed the transportation of the victim’s body to the morgue for preservation by the police, which compelled the family to use private vehicle to convey the body of the deceased without police involvement.
The Kodie District Police command has commenced an investigation into the matter.
However, community members are planning to stage a demonstration against the police command, accusing the police of neglecting their security responsibilities.
The incident has sparked concerns about the rising insecurity in the farming area in the Afigya Kwabere district.
