The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu, has advised Dr. Mathew Opoku Prempeh, running mate to the flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, to work hard and ensure he does not betray the trust the flagbearer has reposed in him.
Dr. Opoku Prempeh has been described by a section of the public as arrogant and undeserving to occupy the second-highest office of the land, which requires serving with humility. However, his supporters have rejected that tag, describing him as an assertive person, which has been wrongly interpreted as arrogance.
Speaking at a durbar at Manhyia on Tuesday, where Dr. Opoku Prempeh, also known as NAPO, was officially introduced to him as Dr. Bawumia’s running mate for the December 7 election, the Asantehene advised the outgoing Minister for Energy to serve with humility.
“I have already spoken to my son (NAPO) in private, but let me say it to you publicly. Don’t ever let Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia regret choosing you as his running mate. Serve him with humility and do as he instructs you. I am repeating what I have told you in private. Be very humble in the discharge of your duties and work diligently. Be humble and work to Dr. Bawumia’s instruction.
“After your selection as running mate, there has been talk that you are arrogant, but I don’t know you to be arrogant because I nurtured you well and offered you good upbringing. Why the arrogant tag on you now? The claim of arrogance against you, I can defend you and say that is not true, but guard against acts that will vindicate those who are accusing you of being arrogant. We’ll support you with prayers and trust God to lead you in all you do to a successful end.”
