The Ga Mantse, His Royal Majesty King Tackie Teiko Tsuru II, has warned against inappropriate and indiscriminate disposal of waste within the Greater Accra region.

According to Ga Mantse, a special taskforce will be patrolling in Accra to ensure the city remains clean, however those who will be found flouting the sanitation by-laws will be dragged to the sanitation court and prosecuted to serve as deterrent.

He made this caution during an inspection tour of the Homowo clean-up exercise campaign’s second phase on Saturday, July 14, 2024 within areas such as Tudu, Makola, CMB, Rawlings Park, and the Central Business District (CBD) of Accra.

King Tackie Teiko Tsuru II was joined by senior officials from the Greater Accra Regional Coordinating Council (GARCC), Asafoatsemei, Asafoanyemei, Staff of Zoomlion Ghana Limited, and Environmental Health Officers on the inspection tour.

“It’s a pleasure to walk on these streets, knowing they’re now safe and clean,” he remarked, beaming with delight, as he addressed participants during the exercise.

He assured that the exercise will be sustained beyond the Homowo festivities, vowing to continue the clean-up efforts and lead by example.

“We will ensure that this exercise goes beyond the Homowo celebrations and becomes a regular feature in our community,” he said

The Director of Communications and Corporate Affairs of Zoomlion Ghana Limited, Madam Emma Adwoa Appiaa Osei-Duah expressed disappointment over the lack of interest from some traders in contributing to the city’s cleanliness.

According to her, unsanitary conditions bring about diseases that can affect them and people who patronize their goods and services.

She urged the metropolitan, municipal, and district assemblies (MMDAs) to enforce the sanitation by-laws to ensure cleanliness in Accra.
